My First New York
My High School BFF reminded me again yesterday that it's been awhile since I've blogged and to that I responded, "Sherri, that's because I've been busy living!" She thought that was great and suggested that I start off my blog entry today with that as my statement. So there you have it. That's my big excuse for not keeping up, (I know...I'm a bad blogger), so my apologies. My parents are usually the ones that are the most dedicated readers but since they are on some amazing cruise for 3 weeks in Greece, Egypt and Italy, I'm not feeling the real pressure to blog, but I have been itching to write and thought that I should get reacquainted with my blog again today. Anyways, this month has been a busy month. I've had a visitor come every weekend in April, so that's kept me really busy. As a result, I've had the pleasure of going to some cool shows, I saw "Stomp" last weekend with Carmen and "Rock of Ages" this past Monday with Seana and Devyn. Both were amazing and to quote 12 year old Devyn, "Rock of Ages was better than the Lyon King"...so that's quite an endorsement. Besides that, I've just been working, going to the gym, started playing volleyball on a league, and just meeting people, checking things out and having a great time in the process. In 2 days, April 18th, I will have been in NYC for 3 months. I can't believe how time has flown. Three months seems short, but also long at the same time. I miss my family, especially my niece who I just learned started walking. I miss my many dear friends, but thankfully with cell phones and email, and even Facebook, have been able to keep tabs on everyone and I feel though sometimes that I am still there. For the most part the first 3 months here in NYC has been everything and more, and right now, I have no regrets for making the move out here. Interestingly enough, New York magazine's cover is titled, "My First New York" and it is a compilation of stories from famous people (artists, designers, models, etc) and their first encounter of NYC. We all came here for a purpose, I'm still trying to figure out mine, but for some reason the idea of living in NYC is a dream for many and as the article states, "45% of the people under 35 said they'd like to live in New York. So if you're already here, roughly half of young America would happily switch places with you right now." And then it goes on..."But we didn't need a poll to tell us this." It is true...New York has something no other city has...is it the energy, just amazing historical buildings, the people, the culture? Who knows...it's just a place that is pretty magical and although I left my heart in SF, I can sometimes see how I can easily fall in love with this place and not want to return home. The New York Magazine article also says, "When you get laid off from your job, or get dumped by your boyfriend, New York is the best revenge". Well the former definitely was the case for me and the latter, well, let's just say I am hopeful that there are more fish to choose from here than in SF, although the quality of the fish is yet to be determined. But again, time can only tell and so far my assessment after 3 months is that I feel fortunate that I get to now be a part of that group that gets to write about "My first New York".
