I guess it's hard to really generalize over 4 million people after only being here for 3 days...but so far, I have felt that New Yorkers, at least the ones that I've come across or approached for direction/guidance, have been extremely nice. In fact, I befriended a nice young woman only after talking to her for 15 minutes on the Subway. Turns out this woman was from Poland and is in NY to finish some courses to complete her Masters in Psychology. She has only been here a year and will be returning to her country to practice in Spring. I got to talking to her after again, trying to navigate the subway maps, and decided to ask her for clarification on a couple routes. She happened to be getting off at the same stop as me so she literally decided to show me. As we walked we started talking and she asked if I had any friends here, to which I said not really, so she offered me her number and said that I could give her a call if I needed anything or want to hang out sometime for some coffee or dinner. It was really sweet. I told my cousins about the incident when I got home and being the cynical New Yorkers that they are, thought that she was probably gay. LOL! I doubt that very much...but it was pretty funny that that was their first reaction.
Later that day I went to see an apartment in Soho. That area of Soho with the cute little boutiques and cafes (Prince and Spring St.) is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately, the apartment that I saw was not. However, the young woman that I met there, a Swedish model, was also a nice woman and although I don't think that I could live in the apartment with her...she proceeded to tell me all about her dating life and what it is like in NYC. It was a trip! Now, don't forget, she is a model...so her dating story is probably not going to be your typical one, but what she told me was that men in NYC (at least the guys that she dates - All investment bankers and stock broker types) are non-committal, but will spoil you rotten. She has been taken to so many nice vacations and restaurants and if a guy doesn't send a cab over to her house to pick her up, she is completely insulted and wouldn't even consider a second date. She claims that all NYC men pay for everything and was shocked when I told her that a lot of guys in CA will even suggests going dutch. She almost fell over when I told her that. So I guess she won't be moving to CA anytime soon. Certainly I have a lot to learn about this city, not just exploring it as a whole, but the type of people that make it up. That part is almost going to be more fun than the city itself.

Sounds like the the "Ladies of NYC" are very friendly...
i heard you can meet really nice girls at a place called the "Emperor's Club". you should check that out, they might even be hiring.
That swedish model is the exact reason why i left NYC 10 years ago. Good to see things haven't changed.
