Food and Drinks

It is restaurant week in NYC and tonight I had the pleasure of dining out with some new friends, Mia and Paul, whom I met through my BFF Kenny. I had met Mia once before in SF a few months ago and she really inspired me to make the move out to NYC. Mia grew up in Chicago and in her mid-30's also wanted a change and so she started to think about moving to New York. She revealed that at the time, she also had tremendous fears about the move to this big city, but our wonderful friend Kenny walked her through many of those fears, like he has for me now, and 5 years later she is still here and can't imagine living anywhere else. Like me, Mia also came to NYC with just some of her clothes, but with a lot of courage and the hope of making it in New York. She is convinced that I too will grow to love it and will never want to live in any other city. So many people I've met have said the same thing...and in a way, already, I can see why. Anyways, tonight Mia and her boyfriend Paul invited me to join them for dinner at this really nice Thai restaurant called Kittichai. Kittichai is located in Soho inside the Thompson Hotel (http://www.60thompson.com). Prior to our dinner reservations at 9:30 (Yup...supposedly that's the normal dinner time in NYC) we had drinks at the "Thom Bar" which is also inside the hotel. The place was definitely swanky and everyone there was absolutely gorgeous. It really felt like a scene from Sex in the City. Then at 9:30 we proceeded downstairs to where Kittichai was and again more gorgeous people, especially the hot male host. ;-) In anycase, the place was great, the food was delicious and the company was delightful. Mia and Paul are such fun people, and I almost forgot to mention Mia's dear friend Eji who is a fashion designer from Nigeria who joined us earlier for drinks. He was a lot of fun too and we had many laughs in the 30 minutes we hung out. But that's NYC. I've come across so many fun and energizing people. And isn't it really about the people that create your experience. Anyways, I digress...Mia, Paul and I are all in advertising. They are the "Creatives" while I'm on the less creative side, but in any case, what I discovered tonight was that Paul was the man responsible for creating the MSN logo (above). His story was quite funny, but in short, turns out this really recognizable logo was done in 24 hours after downing about 3 glasses of whiskey. Pretty hilarious and I told him at dinner tonight that for what it's worth, I would make it my blog entry for today. Now, this is the kind of stuff I look forward to hearing about and learning as I meet new people in this amazing city. Also makes me think that I should probably start drinking more if it inspires such creative ideas. Cheers everyone!
