I arrived in NYC this morning after taking the red-eye from SF last night. My two BFF's Kenny and Michelle saw me off with drinks at the international terminal. I flew out of Virgin America for the first time and the international terminal is where they take off. Since my flight to NYC this time was the real deal and not a vacation, I packed 3 large suitcases, a carry-on and a laptop bag. I was seriously over loaded. In fact, Michelle jokingly said "good thing we're at the international terminal because it looks like you are going to the Philipines instead of NYC." Even the guy behind the counter thought all those bags were for the two of us, not just for me. ;-) In anycase, I am glad that I got to spend my last night in SF with two of my best friends. The three of us are like the 3 musketeers, if you saw one of us, chances are the other two weren't far behind. Ever since I moved back from LA over 3 years ago, the three of us would spend almost every week together meeting up for drinks at a local dive bar followed by dinner at some Asian restaurant. We would even meet up more than once a week sometimes...and every time, we would go home, cheeks sore from all the laughter and often times giggling on the way home just thinking about the antics of the evening. And boy were there many. Certainly, I am going to miss so much about San Francisco, but missing Kenny and Michelle, is definitely up there. I miss them already and it's only day 1. All I can say is, thank goodness for 3-way calling, but most importantly... for great friends.
Anyways...it is still pretty surreal that I am in NYC and don't have a return ticket back to SF. I guess NYC is my home for now. Hours after arriving, my cousin Steven even took me to an IKEA to start furniture shopping. You know when you already have the bed and now just bought a dresser, a ton of hangers and a laundry basket, that it's pretty much the real deal. So I guess I am really here for now. Certainly I couldn't have moved to NYC at a more memorable time. Regardless of what happens for me here in NYC, I will never forget the year that I decided to do it. I can look back at this time and remember that I moved to NYC the same week the country and the world welcomed the first black President of the United States. I am so excited and how appropriate that this is all happening the day after Martin Luther King's birthday. I know it's silly to compare, but Martin Luther King's dream will be fulfilled tomorrow, and in some small way, my dream to live in NYC will have come true too. So whatever your dreams are, may you never lose sight of them even if it seems at times unreachable. Here's to a new tomorrow, a new President and a New Year! May it be great for everyone!
