The Equinox in Soho

So this is where I spend most of my evenings. I signed up 3 weeks ago when they were running the "30/90" Equinox challenge. If you succeeded in going to the gym 30 times in 90 days, they would reimburse your registration fee 100%. So I'm taking the challenge, but regardless if the challenge existed or not, I am one of those crazy people that likes to go to the gym. At one point I even belonged to 3 gyms (24 Hour Fitness, The JCC and the SCLA). It's just part of my daily routine and I find it to be a great stress relief. I typically go at least 5 times a week and when I do, I prefer to use free weights, but every once in awhile will take kickboxing classes or a body sculpting class, just to mix things up. After each work out, I usually do crunches, stretch, and if I have time, I go into the steam room, shower and then I'm done. I usually leave the gym starving and ready to eat. Certainly there are days I don't want to go, but even when I lose those fights with myself and end up going, I always leave feeling pretty good that I went. I strongly believe that as you get older, exercise is the only real thing that will keep you looking and feeling young. Plus, the stronger you feel physically, the stronger you feel mentally. My parents go to the gym regularly too and they are in their mid-60's, so perhaps I get it from them. It really is a challenge though if you hate to go, so what I find helpful is going to the gym where there is lots of eye candy. I chose this one for that exact reason. The guys are hot and the women are even hotter. Unfortunately, I think that the majority of the men that belong to the Equinox in Soho don't even play on my team, but they are still nice to look at when you are in between sets and stretching. I told my roommate Jason about all the hot chicks (lots of models), so I gave him a free pass to try it out for the week and I think he may consider joining now. See...we all need a little motivation...if it's not our ever growing gut, flabby arms or flat butt, it's the gorgeous people and the nice environment. The Equinox is definitely a nice place to workout, and sometimes if you are lucky, like I was today, a trainer will ask if you need help stretching. Christian, a french trainer who also plays the percussion for the NY Opera, stretched me today. I told him that I've been having a lot of trouble with my lower back, so he really helped work out those tight muscles. I felt so much better afterwards. It was definitely worth the nice chunk of change that I will be paying every month just to go there. Hopefully you'll be just as lucky at your gym.
Have a great workout!
