This is a painting done by Valazquez of his own assistant. This was considered an informal portrait. I was drawn to this portrait after walking through rooms upon rooms of paintings done of the classic European genre...portraits of white people obviously of means and upper class standings and then this portrait of a dark skinned male appeared and I thought...huh? It just stood out, so of course I had to capture it.
