So remember my posting on the ThreeAsFour fashion show where I described the funny looking woman with an orange bob and lips painted like a geisha...well, to my surprise, I accidentally found a picture of her today while perusing New York Magazine on-line. Her name is Lynn Yaegar and she is somewhat of a style icon here in NYC. I googled her and learned that she use to write for the Village Voice and has also been published in the New York Times Style magazine. Remember I said she seemed like someone who seemed to have a lot of friends at the show, well, now I know why. I'm just glad I can now show you proof of the trippy looking person I saw at the show. Now, imagine seeing her, characters like her, or wanna be's like her in person. That was what I was lucky enough to witness that night. So it makes me happy that now I can at least show you what I had been trying to describe. Isn't a picture worth so much more. Anyways, you've gotta love New York City when originality and quirkiness is respected and even admired. I think that if Lynn Yaeger lived in San Francisco, she may have been viewed as a weird looking woman with questionable taste. Certainly not revered for her sense of style. Spending time in New York though has definitely allowed me to appreciate fashion again. When I was in my early 20's I was one of those girls that wanted to go to FIDM and or Parson's and that was what brought me to NYC at that age to begin with. But fear and a long term relationship kept me from pursuing my passion and kept me back in S.F. And as time went on, my love affaire for fashion started to dwindle, but now that I am back in NYC, I am some what intrigued by it again. People who live here, men, woman and children alike, seem to put a lot more thought into what they look like, especially now, when it's cold. The coats, hats and scarves that people wear here are above and beyond Burlington Coat Factory or Macy's. Clearly everyone spends a lot of money on their coats. Being from California and San Francisco in particular, we are a lot more politically correct when it comes to most things, but in NYC, if fur is in, it is in. And people wear a lot of it here. The men obviously don't wear fur, but the coats and hats they wear are even stylish. I look forward to seeing what transpires as the seasons change. Are flip flops in the summer going to be as common in New York than it is in California? Something tells me it won't be.
