My last free day...(sigh)

It snowed in NYC today so what better way to spend my last day as an unemployed citizen but to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I went there around noon, had lunch at the cafe and spent about 4 hours walking around and exploring every exhibit. There was just so much to see and each exhibit seemed to get better as I strolled through the Met. I wanted to take so many pictures and ended up taking close to 80, selecting only the ones I liked the most to feature in my blog. My favorite piece from the Met was a painting by the Italian painter Giovanni Paolo Panini. There were just so many careful details in his painting that you really had to study it up close, but yet when you stepped back and saw it, you can see and feel how grand, yet delicate, this painting really was. It was simply amazing and all I kept wondering was, how long did it take this guy to create such a masterpiece? Definitely something you should all try to see in person. In anycase, although I spent nearly 4 hours at the Met today, I felt like I breezed through it all. You really have to spend days there to really take it all in properly. But as wonderful as the Met was, I have to admit, what may have topped the museum for me was not inside the museum, but outside. I know I am still very new to NYC, so I still have that naive childlike feeling whenever I see snow fall (In fact, like a little kid, I even stuck my tongue out a couple times just to see what it feels like when the snow lands on my tongue), but today when I walked out of the museum and saw what nature had created, it literally took my breath away. The landscape of NYC covered in snow is something that is so beautiful that all I can do is smile. I purposely took a detour and instead of walking towards the subway, I walked a few more blocks to Central Park instead. There was a soft cozy blanket covering every tree, bench, path, etc..that it was picture perfect. I don't even remember feeling cold, just excited that I could be there to witness all of this in person. I know that New Yorkers are probably sick of all this and waiting inpatiently for Spring to come. I hear that's a beauty in itself when the leaves start to appear on trees again and flowers start to bloom, but I'm quite enjoying this too. My friends from California have been so sweet and keep sending me emails and pictures of another uncharacteristic summer-like day they are having out west, and to that I say, thank you...but don't you miss winter?

Anyways, like I said, today is my last full day of freedom. I am happy to report that after months of being unemployed, which lead me to considering this move to NYC to begin with, I will be starting my first day tomorrow with a great advertising company as their Sr. Interactive Project Manager. I am excited and look forward to rejoining the work force, but it is also a bit bitter sweet, as unemployment has allowed me the freedom to explore this great city, write about it and just enjoy life without the constraints of the hours a job requires you to commit. But of course without work, I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy my free time, so I am happy to return. The unfortunate thing is that I am certain that this new job will get in the way of my blogging, but I will try to write at least once a week and maybe even twice, time and inspiration permitting of course. Until then, thank you all for your continued support and for taking the time to read my blog. I am always surprised when people tell me they read it, and besides my love for writing, I do it because I now know there is an audience. It may just be my parents, but they are an audience, most important ones at that. So thank you for giving me an outlet in which to express my thoughts, feelings and opinions. I hope that you've enjoyed everything I've done so far.

Thanks for the great photos of the Met and of the snow covered Central Park. I remember doing the same Met tour by myself during the spring time and feeling quite at peace too.
