ThreeAsFour Fashion Show

It is Fashion Week here in NYC and I was fortunate enough to experience the excitement of fashion week by attending a fashion show being held by the design company: ThreeAsFour. I was invited to the show by a new friend named Eji who, along with his wife Lee, designs for ThreeAsFour. Before last night, I had never heard of the brand, so when I found out that their pieces start in the $2000-$3000 range and that their clients are mostly European and that they sell their line only at the most high end stores, I quickly realized why. The show itself though was entertaining as the line was presented more like an art installation versus the traditional catwalk that is typical of fashion shows. The pieces that came out were only black and off-white and the models basically walked back and forth like zombies and every once in awhile would tend to the bonzai trees that were propped on top of these glass tables. The music that accompanied the installation was very etherial and would probably trip you out if you were high on acid. Which wouldn't surprise me if a few people had come to the show having done exactly that. Because although the show was a little strange, the people who attended the show were even stranger. I would say that at least 200-300 people showed up to this 1 hour installation, and as I sat there, I kept watching characters of every age, race, and size make their entrance into the gallery and each person coming through the door got stranger and stranger. These fashion people were like Carrie Bradshaw (when she wears the crazy outfits) times 100. I saw so many strange looking hats, glasses, jackets, shoes, pants, etc...on both men and woman and even children (a few were there strangely enough along with 1 tiny dog). One woman that totally caught my eye was this woman who looked to be in her late 50's, had a short orange bob hairstyle, wore funky glasses and had lipstick drawn on her lip as though she were a geisha. I was tripping on her hard!! She seemed like someone who had a lot of friends there and I just kept wondering how her friends were able to talk to her without staring at her lips. I know I certainly couldn't have. If I didn't think it was rude to take a picture of the people walking in, trust me, I would have. That would have made for a more interesting blog about this night. People in NYC take their fashion very seriously...almost too seriously for me. Eji and Lee could look at what someone is wearing and tell you without looking at the label, who designed it and how much it cost. It is serious business here, in fact, I went shopping today at Century 21, a discount department stores that carries marked down designer labels, and I overheard a mom trying to teach her 2 year old daughter how to say "Jimmy Choo". I swear I can't even make this stuff up. Oy Vey! I guess I really am in New York City.
